Grant to Central Youth Theatre helps young hearing impaired actors

Wolves player Stefan Maierhofer recently presented a Wolves Aid donation of a £2000 to Wolverhampton’s Central Youth Theatre (CYT) which has enabled them to give hearing impaired young people the chance to take part in a unique drama project.

As a result of the donation 17 young people between the ages of 8 and 19 (a number of whom are hearing impaired) were able to join the project at the Newhampton Arts Centre free of charge for one week.

The donation from Wolves Aid, part of Wolves Community Trust went towards funding the Director and Signer for the hearing impaired.

The half-term course was a great success and Jane Ward, the director of the award-winning Black Country theatre group which has been celebrating its 25th year, said: “This was a great opportunity for the young people as they got to learn that physical theatre is more than just abstract movement.

“We’ve had a number of those who attended request to join the Central Youth Theatre on a permanent basis so I suppose you could say the week was a storming success!

“We’d all like to thank Wolves Aid for the money they donated.

“Having a Signer doesn’t come cheap and the group formed a brilliant relationship with the Director.”

Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, a trustee of Wolves Aid says, “This is another shining example of Wolves Aid making a positive difference to youngsters in the community.

“When a venture is this successful it makes it all the more rewarding!”
