Wolves Aid Donates £5655.50 For Crucial Communication Aid

Wolves’ official charity, Wolves Aid, has recently donated over £5655.50 to the charity ‘The Sequal Trust’ so that they can buy a vital communication aid for 25 year old Nina Solon from Telford who suffers from cerebral palsy.

Wolves Aid trustee Rachael Heyhoe-Flint presented Nina with her Commuication Aid at her college, Telford College of Art, where she is taking a Foundation course in Photography.

Wolves Aid, part of Wolves Community Trust, donates annually in the region of £100,000 to local charities and community groups, and is one of the largest football charities in the country.

The donation will directly benefit Nina, who lives with her family in Telford, Shropshire.

Because of her disability Nina is wheelchair bound but still can join in many activiries such as bowling, skiing, and ice-skating.

She attends Telford College, and enjoys her studies, socialising and increasing her communication skills, which without a communication aid would be impossible.

Nina was previously provided with a communication aid by The Sequal Trust but that model is now inadequate for her needs. In order for Nina to continue her College studies the provision of a new one is vital.

Sarah Ansell, Nina’s lecturer at Telford Art College, told us how important this new aid was for her, saying, “This course is part of a programme for

people with learning disabilities, which helps them with their social and personal development as well as their social skills due to their interaction with mainstream pupils.

“Nina can sign, but having this box opens up a whole new world of communication for her. We can programme the box for special classes so that she can interact in lessons but it’s so much more than that for her, not just on an educational level but a social one too.

“Essentially it gives her a level of independence that she wouldn’t have without it, and that’s why it’s so special.”

The Sequal Trust is a small national fundraising Charity which is committed to bridging the communication gap for disabled people of all ages throughout the UK, and their aim is to help each of their disabled members to reach their full potential through the provision of suitable communication equipment.

The new aid, a Dynavox V Max, provides her with a means to convey her most basic needs and requirements, to integrate more easily in society and to help advance her education.

The ultimate aim is to provide a means of helping Nina to increase her confidence and independence, to become a more active member of the community and achieve her full potential.
