Wolves Aid has donated £11,500 to Severndale School to help fund a brand new sensory pool.
The Specialist School, based in Shrewsbury, contacted Wolves Aid (part of Wolves Community Trust) last year with plans to install a Sensory System for their existing Hydro Pool.
They managed to secure matched funding against the £11,500 Wolves Aid donation, to fund the full £23,000 cost of the project.
Severndale is a Specialist School for Communication and Interaction, catering for pupils aged two to nineteen who have profound, severe or moderate learning difficulties.
The new SensoryScienta system will provide a creative use of synchronized light, sound, aroma and video projection to give special needs young swimmers a sensory experience.
The ultimate aim is to provide a stimulating sensory experience for youngsters with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) as well as the range of other disabilities present among the school population.
Rachael Heyhoe Flint, Wolves Aid ambassador, recently had the pleasure of officially opening the new pool: “Wolves Aid are delighted to support Severndale School by providing such dynamic sensory equipment for their swimming pool. I have seen the youngsters in action in the pool and I could see that the equipment provides them with a new dimension to their swimming activities”.
