Diabetes has run in my family but I didn’t expect or think about getting it myself. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in November 2011 and initiallyI found this quite difficult to deal with. However, once I got over the initial shock, I thought ‘ok so I’ve got diabetes, get on with it and do something about it’.
We found out about the Tackle Diabetes and the X-PERT programme at the Action 4 Diabetes support group we attend each month and decided this was something we definitely wanted to attend.
I was extremely worried when I was diagnosed with diabetes sixteen months ago, at that point I didn’t know what to do or what was going to happen.
This years World Diabetes Day is on the 14th November. World Diabetes Day aims to promote global awareness of diabetes, and was set up by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to combat the global rise of the condition.

Tuesday the 12th April, 2011 saw the first annual celebration of Wolves Community Trust’s Tackle Diabetes project.
Filmed by BBC’s Match of the Day, the event was held at Molineux and welcomed sixty people interested in finding out more about diabetes itself, the Tackle Diabetes project as well as the support available in Wolverhampton.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in July 2010. After the initial shock and confusion I accepted I had the condition and set about trying to find out what information and support was available to me - my GP and nurse were really helpful but I felt I needed more.
