Wolves Community Trust Ambassador, Matt Murray, has recently become an Honorary Patron of national charity Show Racism the Red Card. The charity uses the high profile of professional footballers to educate young people about racism.
Footballers are role-models for many people and regularly attend educational events at football clubs with Show Racism the Red Card, as well as appearing on educational films sharing their experiences and advice about racism. The positive impact that players can have on young people’s attitudes to racism is considerable.
The campaign works with many current and former professional footballers and managers, like Matt, some agree to become Honorary Patrons of the campaign, acting as ambassadors for anti-racism and being involved in events and work as often as possible.
Show Racism the Red Card Chief Executive Ged Grebby is delighted that Matt has made the decision to become a patron: “Matt has been a brilliant supporter of our campaign. He first came to an event with us at Molineux in 2005, he had great answers for young people’s questions on racism and was happy to present prizes to winners of our School Competition. Matt was able to attend another event with us at the Club last year along with Karl Henry, Kevin Doyle, Marcus Hahnemann and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and was again inspirational on the panel. Matt is a great ambassador for the Wolves Community Trust and we are really pleased that he has continued his support of Show Racism the Red card by agreeing to join our Honorary Patrons. We will look forward to working with him in the coming months.”
Will Clowes, Wolves Community Trust General Manager is also pleased to see Matt sign up as a patron: “ Matt has done a number of Show Racism The Red Card events here at Molineux and has always impressed Ged and the team with the quality of his answers and his rapport with the young people attending the sessions. We have seen over the past few months that racism in football is still an important topic and the education of young people is vital. The work that Show Racism The Red Card does is fantastic and I am sure that Matt will excel in his role as a patron.”
