Wolves Walking Football
Walking Football has recently taken the country by storm, becoming one of the fastest growing sports nationwide. Where teams used to be few and far between, there are now multiple teams in just one city. It is the same beautiful game, just at a slower pace with minimal impact tackling helping to make it more inclusive. A lot of Walking Football sessions limit the age to over 50's only but we also acknowledge that younger people may play due to reasons such as injury or low fitness levels.
For the third year running we were fortunate enough to be able to host a 6-aside Walking Football tournament on the Molineux pitch in May. This was attended by 7 local teams that were either current or previous Wolves Community Trust sessions or from neighbouring Walsall Community Trust sessions. Teams played in a round robin format, playing each other in 10 minute games in an enjoyable but naturally competitive environment! Teams were awarded 5 points for a win, 3 for a draw and 1 for a loss.
Walsall Saddlers were the overall winners with a huge 28 points after an unbeaten run. Dudley Ramblers came 2nd just beating Pete Clarke Wolves on goals scored. The full table can be seen below:
|Pete Clarke Wolves||6||3||1||2||3||3||0||20|
|Aches N Sprains||6||1||2||3||1||6||-5||14|
Feedback from the day was very positive and thanks to all teams who took part and played Walking Football in the right ethos!
We are also pleased to announce that we are launching a new session in partnership with The Dormston Centre in Sedgley. This will help spread our Walking Football provision across the city with future plans looking to increase this provision even more.
